Lily Wachowski, co-creator of “The Matrix,” recently made some striking comments in an interview, stating that supporting J.K. Rowling and “Harry Potter” equates to endorsing “trans genocide.” He also claimed that transgender surgeries for minors are exaggerated and not occurring, labeling such narratives as “right-wing propaganda.”
Wachowski was speaking about his new studio when he introduced this rather alarming perspective, suggesting that the U.S. was on the brink of a significant breakthrough for transgender rights until wealthy individuals intervened with falsehoods. He questioned if anyone genuinely believes that minors are undergoing these surgeries, insisting, “None of this is happening!” However, this assertion seems to clash with various reports, including one from Snopes, which acknowledged that a number of minors have indeed been involved in gender surgeries, including gender-affirming procedures.
The findings revealed that, in 2019 alone, 85 minors had such surgeries, and insurance claims suggested that the numbers have steadily risen in recent years. In fact, a report by Do No Harm states that around 13,994 adolescents have received puberty blockers, hormones, or surgeries from 2019 to 2023, with approximately 5,747 undergoing surgical procedures.
Lately, Wachowski has expressed frustration over the limited interest from Hollywood in the transgender and LGBTQ+ themed stories he has brought forward. He mentioned that he had pitched a project he described as “Star Wars with lesbians in space” but couldn’t find any studio willing to produce it. “If I never make another movie again, I’m fine. I’m getting old,” he remarked, suggesting that the industry’s rejection of these narratives troubles him.
On a different note, Wachowski responded to remarks made by figures like Elon Musk about the term “red pill,” asserting that they have distorted the original message of “The Matrix.” He accused these individuals of “co-opting” progressive ideas for their advantage, essentially stating that it’s been manipulated to confuse the intentions behind those messages.
Moreover, he didn’t hold back when addressing Rowling, categorizing her as a “literal Nazi” due to her criticisms of transgender activism, claiming, “She’s funding trans genocide.” His comments underscore a broader and contentious cultural conversation regarding gender identity and representation in media today.
