A North Carolina police officer was killed Monday morning when an armed man opened fire inside a Greensboro Food Lion grocery store.
Officer Michael Horan, 44, of the Greensboro Police Department was the first to arrive at the store after receiving a 911 call about a suspicious man who may be armed inside the store.
After a brief struggle, the man pulled out a gun and shot Horan, then drove away from the scene around 11 a.m., according to a news release from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
Horan “did not have time to draw his weapon or fire,” according to the release.
