North Korea to Send More Troops to Support Russia in Ukraine

North Korea is set to send an additional 30,000 troops to assist Russia in its invasion of Ukraine, which would significantly increase the number of soldiers it has already contributed. Kyiv’s intelligence network has issued this warning, highlighting a potential escalation in military cooperation.

This decision comes after Russia deployed nearly 12,000 soldiers earlier this year to help reclaim the Kursk region, and Pyongyang aims to reinforce its position on the frontlines for what they describe as “massive attack operations” anticipated in the months ahead.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has indicated it is prepared to offer training, weapons, and vital equipment to facilitate the swift integration of North Korean soldiers, according to assessments from Ukraine.

Reports suggest that large cargo ships and aircraft have been arriving at Sunan Airport in North Korea, aligning with warnings from South Korea about the deployment of additional troops and weapons in July or August.

Seoul’s National Intelligence Agency has pointed out that Russia is gearing up for a significant offensive against Ukraine in the next couple of months, with plans to involve thousands of North Korean fighters in this campaign.

This information aligns with concerns voiced by independent analysts who believe that the summer could spark a renewed push in Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine after a long period of stasis.

Potential attack sites have been identified near the Smie region, where Ukrainian anti-infringement headquarters were stationed during last summer’s conflict over Kursk. Ukraine’s military chief, Oleksandr Silsky, mentioned recently that Moscow is amassing around 50,000 troops along the border with Smie.

Interestingly, the rhetoric coming from Russian authorities is reminiscent of the language used when they first prepared their invasion force in 2022.

Earlier intelligence reports indicated that while about 600 North Korean soldiers lost their lives during prior operations, many more have reportedly engaged in combat following Kim’s initial deployment of 12,000 troops to assist Russia’s efforts in securing the Kursk region.

Initially, both Russia and North Korea were reluctant to discuss the presence of North Korean forces in Ukraine. However, they have since acknowledged it as a testament to the strengthening military ties between their nations.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un confirmed this cooperation agreement in a recent state media announcement.
