Eleanor Holmes Norton Considering Reelection Bid
Eleanor Holmes Norton, the House representative for Washington, D.C., can’t actually vote on legislation, but she’s expressed interest in running for reelection. Her office later clarified some of her comments, indicating there’s no final decision yet.
According to NBC News’ Sahil Kapur, Norton confirmed her intentions on social media, stating, “Yeah, I’m going to run for reelection.” However, a spokesperson, Sharon Nichols, emphasized that while Norton wants to run, discussions are ongoing with her close circle. It’s all a bit up in the air.
This isn’t the first time Norton has shared her ambitions without a firm commitment. Earlier in June, she hinted at running again, but again, her office later tempered the announcement, citing the need for further conversations before making any decisions.
Norton, who has served as D.C.’s representative since 1991, recently turned 88. She plays a significant role in legislative discussions despite her inability to vote on bills in the full House, a situation tied to D.C.’s unique status in Congress.
Fox News Digital reached out to her office for more clarity on her plans.
While her supporters may be eager to see her continue her service, the path forward remains uncertain as she considers her options with family and advisors.
