Not a storybook: Is science confirming the Bible’s miraculous assertions?

Exploring the Supernatural: Lee Strobel’s Latest Work

Lee Strobel, a well-known Christian author, recently shared that his fascination with the unseen world motivated him to write his latest book, *See the Supernatural: Exploring Angels, Demons, Mystical Dreams, Near-Death Encounters, and Other Mysteries of the Invisible World*.

His interest was piqued by data indicating that many Americans believe in the supernatural aspects outlined in the Bible. This compelled him to delve deeper into the subject.

Strobel noted, “It’s not a scam, it’s not a fake. There are documented cases.” He sees his work as a way to create connections with people who might feel distanced from faith but have a curiosity about supernatural phenomena. In a discussion with actress Jen Lily on their podcast *Supernatural*, he explained that these themes might be gateways for understanding biblical teachings regarding realms beyond the physical.

As someone who once identified as an evangelist, Strobel described his journey into these topics as an adventure, though he mentioned that some in the Christian community hesitate to fully embrace their beliefs about the supernatural.

With this in mind, he’s chosen specific cases backed by substantial evidence to highlight these issues. He expressed particular intrigue in near-death experiences, pointing to powerful testimonies supporting supernatural claims.

“You start seeing documented cases where individuals report seeing and hearing things they wouldn’t have been able to if they hadn’t had an out-of-body experience after clinical death,” he explained. “This strengthens what the Bible conveys about the supernatural, instilling courage.”

Strobel shared a compelling story of a woman who clinically died in a hospital and reported a separation from her body. She recounted being able to observe the resuscitation process from the ceiling. Upon her return, she mentioned a detail about the ceiling fan that was only visible from that angle, prompting staff to verify her account.

This kind of evidence, Strobel asserted, supports the notion that something significant might be happening—making the case that the stories told in religious teachings deserve serious consideration.

In a historical context, he also noted a burgeoning interest in scientific inquiries into miracles, which may not have been as prevalent in past decades. He stated, “They’re testing the documents scientifically in ways I don’t think have been done much before. We’re witnessing documented miracles that challenge the notion of wishful thinking. It’s not just a placebo effect or deception; there are solid cases to consider.”

Furthermore, he highlighted instances of medical healing, like that of a blind woman whose husband earnestly prayed for her vision. She subsequently regained perfect sight and has remained well for decades.

Strobel is convinced that these accounts suggest something extraordinary is happening. “These aren’t just tales from Sunday School,” he noted. “Digging into these stories reveals witnesses without motives to deceive, along with medical documentation.”
