Not in Best Interest to Have ‘Same Federal Agencies’ Prosecute Donald Trump and Investigate Assassination Attempts

Both Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody (R) have questioned the wisdom of having the federal government, which is seeking to prosecute former President Donald Trump, investigate an assassination attempt on him.

Governor DeSantis announced on Tuesday that he would sign an executive order to refer the investigation into the assassination attempt on President Trump to a state attorney's office under Governor Moody's supervision. In his remarks, the governor expressed the same concerns expressed by many Americans: He doesn't trust the federal government to properly investigate and provide sufficient transparency.

He said:

In my judgment, the same federal agencies that are trying to prosecute Donald Trump [are] We will be leading these investigations, especially when the most serious and simplest crimes are violations of state law but not federal law.

“In addition to holding the suspects accountable, the public deserves to know the truth about how this assassination happened. [attempt] “I have directed all state agencies to work swiftly to uncover the truth about why this incident occurred,” the governor continued.

Moody echoed that general sentiment, saying, “It's disturbing, to say the least, that the prosecutorial agency and investigative agency that is bringing charges and trying to sentence victims to life in prison are the same prosecutorial agency and prosecutors that are pursuing the defendants.” [alleged] “Aspiring Assassin”

She continued:

And we are pleased that the American people and the people of Florida can have confidence that we are protecting one of our own and investigating it in every way possible, and that we are doing everything we can to protect the life of our former and potential future president, Donald Trump.

Governor DeSantis noted at a press conference that the federal government does not have the authority to prosecute attempted murder charges, which is another key reason the state is getting involved in the case.

If you look at federal law, it applies to sitting federal officials. So in a case where a federal official is not a federal official, or the apparent winner of a presidential election, or the duly declared president-elect, a federal official has no jurisdiction. So we have the authority to pursue, on the spot, under state law, potentially a life sentence.

“That's a big reason why we should move forward at the state level,” he added.

Matthew Boyle, Washington bureau chief for Breitbart News, also expressed concerns about the way the federal government is conducting these investigations, specifically the FBI's withholding of information from the public.

Congress should “force regulators” [Christopher] “Mr. Wray will need to testify every day until he starts providing that information to the public,” he said in a television appearance on Monday. War Room.

“The Speaker of the House should order Capitol Security to arrest the FBI director and hold him in the Capitol until he provides information,” Boyle added. “This is a matter of life and death. This is a matter of national security, and tough situations call for tough measures.”
