We are seven games into the season and still nobody is any of the wiser as to what these teams are, or where they will finish. Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace could feasibly both finish in the top half come May 2025, or could easily be relegated and most people would just shrug and think ‘yep, makes sense’.

Palace finished last season like a train under Oliver Glasner, with Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze, Adam Wharton all starring under the Austrian manager. But this time around, Olise is departed, Eze is woefully out of form and Wharton, struggling with a groin injury picked up over the summer at the Euros, has yet to find the form or fitness that saw him included on the latest ‘Golden Boy’ list. New signings Maxence Lacroix and Eddie Nketiah are talented but have so far failed to fill the voids left by Joachim Andersen and (whisper it) Jordan Ayew. But the truth is that Glasner, along with the rest of us, are still trying to figure out what is going wrong.

Forest are another conundrum. Very mediocre home form and excellent away form (four matches that include a win at Anfield and Southampton and draws at Chelsea and Brighton) mean Nuno Espírito Santo’s side could spring into eighth with a victory tonight.

Any win will be without their talisman, Morgan Gibbs-White (who is suspended for his red card against Brighton), manager Nuno (who is serving the first of a three-match suspension for his reaction to that red card) and a stadium ban for owner Evangelos Marinakis (who was found guilty of improper conduct following Forest’s defeat against Fulham in September).

That said, the City Ground under the lights always fun, especially with Big Chris Wood leading the line. Vibes are high in the east Midlands. Do join me for the 8pm BST kick-off. I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen.

main events

6 minutes: Lerma's early booking to bring back Hudson-Odoi. It was a frustrating yellow card for the combative Palace midfielder, who will need to watch his step from now on.

share

5 minutes: Close to Eze! The England international cut in from the right and fired straight towards goal. Milenkovic retreated to the 18-yard box without putting a glove on the Palace Man, but the Palace Man changed the ball and sent his shot just wide of the top corner! Wow, that was close. Selus must have taken root in the spot and breathed a sigh of relief as he watched it fly past the uprights.

share

2 minutes: Right-back Aina is a small and tidy player for Forest. He is also lightning fast and will have to deal with the dual threat of Kamata as a playmaker floating just inside, and Mitchell as a push-up left wing-back.

share

Beep beep! And we're off. The Forest is famously red and white, while the Palace is all yellow.

Update date and time

The team is out! It will be interesting to see how Dean Henderson reacts to tonight's goal. He was on loan at Forest a few seasons ago.

The forest appears to be lined up in a 4-2-3-1.. It will be interesting to see who replaces Gibbs-White in the number 10 role. Both Anderson (who acts more like an all-action Scott McTominay-style playmaker) and Dominguez are capable of playing there.

Nuno says:

Although we are missing some players, the team is ready. Palace are a tough team. I don't see any positives to being in the stands. [for this game]. We will communicate with the staff.

share

It will be interesting to see Nketiah start before Mateta.who played for Palace at the end of last season and was one of the players in the summer Olympics in France, is already looking tired… and now it's October. Nketiah (and perhaps a little surprisingly) is often used as a wide forward, but tonight he gets his chance at center.

Forest have a physically strong duo in Milenkovic and Murillo, so a battle with Mateta would have been expected. Nketiah will want to drop deep and pull Milenkovic and Murillo out of position, finding space in the box and finishing instinctively.

Update date and time

preamble

Seven games into the season, no one is the wiser yet as to what kind of teams these teams are or where they will finish. Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace could both finish in the top half in May 2025, or could easily be relegated, and most people would shrug their shoulders and say, 'Oh, of course. ” you would think.

Palace finished like a train last season under Oliver Glasner, with Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton all starring under the Austrian manager. But this time, Oliseh is out, Eze is seriously out of form, and Wharton is still struggling with a groin injury he picked up at the Euros in the summer and has yet to find the form and fitness to play. Latest “Golden Boy” list. New signings Maxence Lacroix and Eddie Nketiah are talented, but have so far failed to fill the void left by Joachim Andersen and (rumored) Jordan Ayew. But the truth is, Glassner and all of us are still trying to figure out what the problem is.

Forests are another challenge. A win tonight would see Nuno Espirito Santo's side move up to eighth after a very mediocre home run and excellent away form (four games including wins at Anfield and Southampton, draws at Chelsea and Brighton). There is a possibility.

Any victory will benefit their talisman Morgan Gibbs-White (suspended for a red card against Brighton) and manager Nuno (serving the first of a three-match suspension for his reaction to a red card). , and it wouldn't work without a stadium ban. For owner Evangelos Marinakis, who was found guilty of inappropriate conduct after Forest's defeat at Fulham in September.

That said, the City Ground is always fun under the lights, especially with big Chris Wood up front. The atmosphere in the East Midlands is great. Please join us Kick-off at 8pm BST. I have no idea what will happen.
