Novak Djokovic contemplates his future following defeat to Jannik Sinner at the French Open

Novak Djokovic’s Possible Farewell at French Open

Novak Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, may have played his last match at the French Open. He was aiming for a trip to the Men’s Singles Finals but lost to Jannik Sinner in straight sets on Friday.

After the match, Djokovic appeared quite emotional as he packed his bags. He kissed his hands and touched the clay court, reflecting on the match and hinting that it could be his final appearance at Roland Garros.

“I mean, this might have been the last game I’ve played here, so I don’t know,” he remarked, a bit hesitant. “Even at the end, I was a little more emotional.” He added, “If this was a farewell match for me here, it was great in terms of vibes and what I got from the crowd.”

As the last active member of the “Big 3,” Djokovic’s presence in top-level tennis is still significant, though he acknowledges uncertainty about his future. “Want to play more? Yes, I will. But can I play here in 12 months? I don’t know,” he admitted, expressing a mix of hope and uncertainty. “I said that might have been my last match (here). I didn’t say it was.”

Looking ahead, he plans to compete at Wimbledon, although last year marked a tough period for Serbian tennis, as Djokovic’s win at the US Open in 2023 remains his last grand slam victory, with his previous Wimbledon win in 2022.

“It feels like you want to play Wimbledon. You want us to open up. These two are certainly true. The rest, I’m not sure,” he concluded, leaving some ambiguity about what the future holds for him.
