‘Now Is the Time’ for a Ceasefire, to ‘Bring the Hostages Home’

Vice President Kamala Harris said “the time is now” to reach a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

At a rally in Arizona on Friday, Harris Dealt with She met with protesters in the crowd and spoke about how she is “working around the clock, every day” with President Joe Biden to secure a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

“So let me be very clear,” Harris told the crowd, “the time is now to get a ceasefire and a hostage agreement in place. The time is now. The president and I are working around the clock, every day, to get a ceasefire in place and bring the hostages home.”

The Biden administration has been increasing pressure on Israel to agree to a ceasefire with Hamas since Israel launched a military offensive campaign to destroy Hamas in Gaza.

The Israeli military launched an attack on the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip after Hamas terrorists launched a land, sea and air offensive against Israel, leaving 1,200 people dead and more than 250 taken hostage.

Following the recent death of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Iran, Biden said Haniyeh’s death would not be “helpful” to attempts to negotiate a ceasefire.

In November, Israel and Hamas agreed to a temporary pause in fighting, during which several hostages held by Hamas were released on October 7, 2023. Hamas eventually broke the week-long ceasefire by firing rockets into Israel.

As Breitbart News previously reported, President Biden announced a three-part ceasefire agreement in May, which included “a six-week ceasefire that will see the release of some hostages, including five American hostages.”

Under the agreement, Israel would also release Palestinian prisoners and begin negotiations between Israel and Hamas on a permanent ceasefire, the terms of which were “identical” to those previously discussed.

Ms Harris has previously criticised Israel over the “enlargement of human suffering” in Gaza, adding that Israel has the right to defend its own country.

In recent comments, Harris suggested she was open to discussing an arms embargo with leaders of the Unfettered National Movement. Pro-Palestinian groups have previously urged voters to refrain from voting for Biden because of his stance on Israel.
