Nurse Shot and Killed in Oakland During Suspected Robbery
A registered nurse known as “Nurse Solomon” was fatally shot in downtown Oakland during what appears to be a robbery attempt. Lartie Solomon, 33, was killed on May 31 while heading to his car at the intersection of 14th Street and Harrison Avenue, according to law enforcement.
Authorities have charged 39-year-old Shakori Carnell Daniels from Vallejo with murder. In addition to the murder charge, Daniels faces accusations of attempted robbery, the intentional discharge of a firearm, and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.
Oakland Police reported that they responded to gunfire around 2:45 a.m. on the 1400 block of Harrison Street, where they discovered Solomon with gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital but unfortunately did not survive.
Solomon had gained a significant following online, particularly through his TikTok account, where he provided health advice, amassing over 20,000 followers. His online presence contributed to the widespread attention surrounding his tragic death.
Originally from Ghana, Solomon moved to the U.S. and pursued a nursing degree, earning his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Samuel Merritt College after attending Merritt College. He worked as a registered nurse at Alameda Healthcare and Kindred Hospital in San Leandro.
His family emphasized that nursing was more than just a job for Solomon; he was deeply committed to educating others about health issues and empowering them in their healthcare decisions.
According to relatives, Solomon and a friend were returning from a nightclub when they were approached by a man demanding Solomon’s necklace. Solomon’s friend reportedly heard gunfire as they walked to their vehicle.
Daniels was apprehended on June 4 in Menlo Park. He appeared in court for arraignment but remains in custody without bail. Reportedly, Daniels has a history of felony convictions in multiple counties, and his next court date is set for June 30, when he is expected to enter a plea.
