Florida Nurse Enters Plea Deal in Abuse Case
A nurse from Florida has reportedly reached a plea agreement that will lessen the prison time for her husband, who allegedly abused his minor step-son. According to an arrest affidavit from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, 34-year-old Alexis von Yates is accused of having sexual relations with a young boy on July 30, 2024.
Yates, hailing from Ocala, was taken into custody on November 6, 2024. Initially, she faced charges of sexual battery involving a minor under family custody.
Following her arrest, Yates’ nursing license was suspended. Recently, she accepted a plea deal that involved lesser charges of indecent and annoying batteries. Prosecutors noted that the victim’s family was in favor of this arrangement to prevent the 15-year-old from having to return to Florida to testify.
In April, it was reported that the victim had visited his father during the summer when these incidents occurred. According to Yates’ statements, her husband often worked late, which left her alone with the boy and his younger siblings.
There were claims that while they were getting comfortable on the couch and playing video games, Yates reportedly told the victim she was “horny.” The affidavit alleges that this led to inappropriate physical contact.
At one point, the boy’s father returned home to find Yates in the act of abusing her step-son. The Florida Department of Health indicated that Yates’ actions were a significant breach of the trust placed in her as a nurse, citing her poor judgment and lack of moral character.
As part of the judicial agreement, Yates is set to serve two years in the Department of Corrections, followed by two years of community control and ten years of probation as a sex offender. Additionally, she will be required to complete 200 hours of community service and pay fines and court costs.
