A nurse in Florida, who stated that she wouldn’t provide anesthesia to conservative patients, is currently not registered in the state. Eric Martindale reportedly shared on Facebook, “I will not administer anesthesia for any MAGA surgery or procedure. It is my right, it is my ethical oath, and I stand by my academic career. I own everything in my business and I don’t care who I turn away!”
In response, a screen capture of the post was shared on TikTok’s library, urging for Martindale’s immediate dismissal and license revocation.
After receiving significant backlash online, Martindale claimed that her accounts on Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram had been “hacked.” However, TikTok user Liv posted another screenshot seemingly from Martindale herself which contradicted this claim.
“We do not administer anesthesia for surgeries on registered Republicans,” the thread post stated. Martindale’s assertion of being hacked was met with skepticism, as TikTok’s Library remarked, “Nobody bought this Eric. I have all the receipts!”
As of Friday morning, all of Martindale’s social media accounts appear to be deactivated.
On Thursday, Florida Attorney General James Usmeyer announced that Eric Martindale is no longer a registered nurse in Florida. He emphasized that healthcare should not be swayed by political beliefs and warned against any professional putting politics before the ethical duty to treat patients with respect.
The Florida Department of Health has indicated that Martindale voluntarily surrendered her license. However, it noted that this conduct “does not constitute discipline.” There has been no response from the Department regarding whether Martindale’s license has been reinstated or revoked, and attempts to reach her for a statement were unsuccessful.
It’s worth noting that this incident follows a similar situation in which the Florida Nursing Board revoked Lexi Lawler’s nursing license after she posted a video online wishing harm to White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt.
