Violent killings have plagued the Westchester Prosecutor's Office for decades.
Days, of Mount Vernon, was arrested shortly after the bodies and Harris' dog were discovered on November 21, 1996, all severely beaten and stabbed to death.
Investigators focused on Days. Days' mother, Stella Davis, a former medical assistant to the 76-year-old billionaire, filed a sexual abuse complaint against Harris in July 1996.
The case remained unsolved until April 2001, when, after an intense investigation by Eastchester detectives, Selwyn Days was charged with murder, based largely on an alleged confession.
However, Days' first trial, the first of five, ended in a hung jury in December 2003.

He was convicted of second-degree murder in April 2004 and sentenced to 50 years to life in prison, but his conviction was vacated on December 31, 2009.
Days' third trial ended with a guilty verdict in March 2011, but his fourth trial resulted in a new conviction seven months later and a life sentence with an additional 50 years in prison.
However, that conviction was also overturned by the state Court of Appeals, and a fifth trial was held in 2017, which resulted in an acquittal on all charges in the controversial case.
He spent 16 years in prison before being released, but the case went cold again.
On Monday, prosecutors announced they had a new suspect, but provided no further details. The office did not respond to a request for comment Monday.
Roca is not seeking re-election, and incoming State Attorney Susan Cacace is expected to replace her next month.
