NY Gov. Hochul suggests deporting mob of illegal migrants who brutally attacked NYPD officers

New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul has indicated that she will consider deporting a group of illegal immigrants who attacked two New York City police officers over the weekend. new york post report.

Republican politicians are calling for the swift deportation of illegal immigrants involved in the brutal assault. Hochul was asked by reporters on Wednesday whether he supports deporting individuals.

“I think that’s something that should really be considered,” Hochul replied. “So if someone commits a crime against a police officer in New York state and they’re not here legally, it’s definitely worth looking into.”

“They are law enforcement officers and should not be physically assaulted under any circumstances,” the governor continued. “That’s wrong no matter how you look at it, and I expect the judge and prosecutors to do the right thing.”

She called the attack on the officer “abhorrent.”

Blaze News previously reported that a group of men gathered outside a migrant shelter on Saturday night and violently punched, kicked and assaulted police officers as they tried to arrest one person. Surveillance video of the incident in Times Square showed a police officer pinning an unruly immigrant to the ground while the rest of the mob took turns punching the officer.

Two police officers suffered minor injuries. Five people were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the attack. Four of the migrants were charged with assault and released without bail, law enforcement officials told The Post. A fifth person was charged with attempted assault on a police officer.

One of the men accused of assaulting a police officer, Yeoman Rebellon, 24, already has two open cases for assault and robbery, the news agency said.

As of Wednesday, police were still searching for three suspects.

A spokesperson for Hochul told the Post that the governor’s office has been in contact with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office regarding the suspect’s release without bail.

“Under current state law, assaulting a police officer is a bailable crime and the district attorney must hold offenders accountable,” the spokesperson said.

U.S. Republican Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis of New York slammed the city’s “sanctuary” status.

“Laws that prohibit cooperation between the NYPD and federal immigration enforcement agencies simply have to end,” Malliotakis said. “Republicans, independents, and Democrats can at least agree that by being in this city and committing crimes, you are giving up any opportunity to be a part of this citizenry.”
