NY Mets, Jets fans out of luck on ’69’ vanity plates: State DMV

New York’s DMV is angering Mets and Jets fans with its rules and regulations regarding cosmetic plates.

Both teams won the championship in the magical year of 1969, although they only have three titles.

But for New York drivers looking to show off their pride with custom plates like METS69 and JETS69, the SH3T is out of luck.

State DMV officials say all “69” plates receive an 86 rating.

That includes an individual who requested HODGES69, a tribute to the great Miracle Mets manager Gil Hodges, who passed away in 1969.

“In the interest of consistency and transparency, we do not allow any combinations that include the number 69,” said DMV spokesman Tim O’Brien.

All told, the state Department of Transportation rejected 3,027 applications for vanity license plates last year as too political, vulgar or absurd.

Giants superfan Joe Luback, aka “License Plate Guy,” owns a number of vehicles with vanity plates. The Corvette, tagged 13WHIP, paid homage to former Big Blue wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

New York personalized plates are perfect First time is $60, then annual renewals are $31.25. You can get any plate as long as you don’t feel uncomfortable if someone else doesn’t have it.

Perhaps your request for a plate representing your birthday or anniversary could be granted by an unknown DMV decision maker.

A plate that says “LFGM” (an acronym for Pete Alonso’s familiar “Let’s Fucking Go Mets” cry) is slapped on every year.

Want to beat the Eagles, Flyers, or 76ers? No.

FPHILLY was unpopular.

Rockland County’s Joe Luback, a Giants superfan and also known as “The License Plate Guy,” knows this firsthand.

“Right after the Eagles won the Super Bowl, I tried to get FPHILLY.” [in 2018] Then every six months,” Luback, 54, laughed. “Believe me, if it passes, I’ll rock it,” he added.

“Once you decline a plate, that plate is permanently reserved in our system and will appear as unavailable,” the DMV’s O’Brien said.

The man aptly nicknamed the License Plate Guy currently has custom tags of the Giants’ Cinderella quarterback, Tommy “Tommy Cutlets” DeVito, on multiple vehicles, including CUTLTS.
