It was Oscar Wilde who observed that “hate is blind.” Unlike love, it destroys those it hates. It is a corrosive poison that slowly eats away at the human spirit and obliterates all values.
Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal lawyer, presents Exhibit A of a man weakened by anger and resentment toward his former boss, Donald Trump. He blames the former president for his own self-destruction, which led to a three-year prison sentence.
But no one told Cohen to lie to Congress, lie to the courts, lie to the banks, lie to the special counsel, lie to the Federal Election Commission, lie to the IRS. Not that it was. He did it all himself because, as he confessed in court, he is a liar and a bully.

The prosecution’s star witness against Trump, Michael Cohen, is a chronic habitual liar
Disbarred and disgraced, Cohen’s name is now synonymous with “serial perjurer.” The term was recently coined by a federal judge who correctly assessed Cohen’s lack of character. He was still lying there, the court said. It is a vice that satisfies his hatred.
If the jury focused on Cohen, they would see him as a misanthropic anomaly who lacks morals and conscience. He is false and unreliable, making him the worst possible kind of witness.
Given Cohen’s sordid history, it is puzzling why a responsible prosecutor would call him to the stand, let alone cast his entire case on the credence of an unhinged, incurable fabricator. This is a sign of the desperate actions of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Without Cohen, prosecutors’ ambitions to put President Trump behind bars would disappear.
Bragg and his team of partisans knew their star witness would be trampled on cross-examination. That’s why, at the end of Tuesday morning’s courtroom, they tried to preempt the inevitable assault by holding Cohen to account for an avalanche of lies. It was a long list. His explanation seemed empty, and so did his apology.

The defense finally got its chance in the shortened afternoon session. Cohen admitted to having amnesia when questioned about how prosecutors instructed him to put socks in his mouth on social media. He faced the hostility he has spewed against Trump on endless TV shows and hundreds of podcasts over the past six years. He feigned acute memory loss, the kind that plagues dementia patients.
That doesn’t matter, since many of Cohen’s screeds are digitally recorded and on standby. When finally presented, it provides a striking contrast. In court, jurors saw a well-dressed Mr. Cohen. His manner was calm, thoughtful, even polite. His venom was probably well hidden under strict instructions from prosecutors. Of course, it was a scam by a habitual charlatan.

When the video plays, the true ugliness of the real Michael Cohen will be revealed. He went on a crazy rant, with President Trump furious: “He’s in a cage like a fucking animal.” He calls the former president a “dictator” and “a cheat-filled cartoon villain.” These are just some of the TikTok rants that took place during the trial when Cohen was trolling Dollar. We have others, too.
Anyone who has had the misfortune to interact with Cohen has described him in the most detestable terms. He is mean, mean, and disgusting. A ruthless bully with no morals. That matches his seething hatred, as seen in the video. In one photo, he is seen wearing a T-shirt with a photo of President Trump superimposed behind prison bars. He was forced to admit in court Tuesday that he wants Trump to be convicted.
That’s the only motive for lying, and for Cohen it’s instinctual. It’s in his DNA. he is sick It is further exacerbated by another motive: greed. His livelihood depends on bashing Trump. He has no other source of income. If President Trump isn’t furious, he’ll be a pauper.
Lawyers call cross-examination the engine of truth. It strips away the façade of the false witness and exposes him to scrutiny of hard facts and uncomfortable truths. Cohen’s thirst for revenge is hard to hide. This is evident in his book ‘Disloyal’ and another book titled ‘Revenge’.

He is also the perfect witness for the Manhattan District Attorney. Jurors may dislike Mr. Cohen, but Mr. Bragg expects them to dislike Mr. Trump even more.
