NY1 anchor Lewis Dodley reveals he plans to retire from station

Louis Dodley, the longtime NY1 anchor, announced Monday that his legendary career in front of news cameras will end at the end of this month.

Mr. Dodley, 65, is retiring after more than 30 years at the Big Apple station, where he covered countless historic events, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Hurricane Sandy and the COVID-19 pandemic. He told viewers that he intended to do so.

Dodley, along with anchor Cheryl Wills, has been with NY1 since the station’s inception.

“When I was offered this job in 1992, I thought it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” he said on Monday night’s broadcast. “I’ve tried to treat it that way.

“NY1 is a window to New York City, and it’s a real honor to be the face you see here.”

Dodley said in his 2022 lecture. “Morning 1” interview News organizations have evolved a lot since NY1 first aired.

“We had something to prove,” Dodley said in 2022, reflecting on his 30 years with the department. “Even these days, I go to work thinking I have something to prove.”

Colleague Pat Keenan called Dodley “the iron man of NY1.” Tweet Monday night.

“Congratulations to Louis Dodley on his amazing run! He is the only evening anchor in NY1’s nearly 32 years of broadcasting. His guidance to me and steady presence to our viewers set the standard.” said a fellow anchor.

NY1 reporter Justin Lee tweeted He said Dodley was “the epitome of professionalism and also the most down-to-earth person.”

Dodley said Monday he had more to share with viewers in the coming weeks before the final broadcast.
