A prominent attorney has been placed on leave from his esteemed Manhattan law firm following a series of events that have drawn attention. Nathaniel Clerton, 45 and married, has reportedly stepped away from Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz amid an investigation linked to an extramarital affair, as noted by sources familiar with the situation.
Interestingly, Clerton is expected to join several other notable attorneys from his firm who have relocated to Gibson Dunn this week, according to reports.
However, a twist emerged last week when a video featuring Clerton and his 29-year-old colleague Kelsey Borenzweig went viral. The footage, which captured the two in an intimate moment, maybe influenced his anticipated transfer.
There are questions surrounding Borenzweig as well—it’s unclear if she is under investigation or has also been placed on leave due to the video’s popularity.
As of Tuesday, both Clerton and Borenzweig’s professional profiles remained active on their firm’s website. The viral video showcases them sharing a passionate kiss in Central Park, only to be interrupted by a TikTok content creator.
The TikToker, identified as Jay Guapo, can be heard asking for privacy, commenting that there are children nearby. Clerton and Borenzweig react shyly to the interruption, attempting to shield themselves as Guapo approaches.
Clerton, smiling, gets up, seemingly trying to ask Guapo to leave, while Borenzweig tells him to stop filming. Guapo, known for his edgy content, responds with a playful, albeit confrontational remark: “Don’t touch me, don’t touch me. If you touch me, I have to touch you.”
Clerton has been married to Moira Penza, also a lawyer, since 2016, and they live together in a $2.3 million co-op in the Upper East Side. Meanwhile, Borenzweig was reportedly in a relationship with another attorney, though sources suggest they’ve recently ended things.
Attempts to get comments from Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, as well as Gibson Dunn, were made. Clerton has not provided an immediate response.
