A budget staffer for Mayor Eric Adams has been suspended from his six-figure paying job after posting on social media “sorry I missed out” following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Tyler Barbieri, a $112,604-a-year analyst at the Office of Budget and Management since at least 2018, has been suspended without pay for two weeks after posting some crazy comments on his Instagram page, leading critics to call for him to be given notice of termination.
“This is really disgusting.” X Account “End Wokeness” responded.
“He should be fired immediately for advocating political violence against a former president and presidential candidate,” Eric Pisti responded in the thread.
“He needs to lose his job immediately,” said Trump supporter Mike Ray.
Barbieri, 37, deleted the post and his LinkedIn account was deleted on Sunday.
Adams’ office said it took swift action against Barbieri on Sunday after learning of posts in which he wished death upon Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
“We are aware that a mid-level employee made an inappropriate social media post about the tragic events that occurred in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Conservatism of gun or political violence, even in joke, is unacceptable and runs counter to our values,” a spokesman for Adams said.
“The employee was not speaking on behalf of the city and we took proactive disciplinary action. The employee has since apologized for her post and acknowledged it was wrong.”

According to a City Hall source, Mr. Barbieri apologized to his bosses at OMB both by phone and in writing.
Budget analysts declined phone requests for comment.
Still, some outraged critics argued that Barbieri should have faced harsher punishment from the city.
“He should be fired,” said Staten Island Republican Party Chairman and state Assemblyman Michael Tanoussis.
“When someone is plotting to assassinate President Trump, this worker on the taxpayer’s payroll should have exercised better judgment.”

Other city employees have not received the same treatment.
City Hall employee Christopher Baugh was fired in October 2022 after he was secretly recorded criticizing Adams’ response to the large number of migrants entering New York and berating officers who refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
Governor Adams held a press conference on Sunday with religious leaders, including the Rev. Al Sharpton, to condemn hate speech and political violence and urge everyone to moderate their language and resolve their differences with the “ballot box” rather than the “bullet.”
Suspect Thomas Matthew Crooks purchased 50 rounds of ammunition from a local gun store just hours before opening fire on Trump during a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, grazing him in the ear, killing one heroic volunteer firefighter in the crowd, and severely wounding two more.
Crooks was on the roof of a manufacturing plant about 130 yards from Trump’s rally when he fired what appeared to be eight shots. A Secret Service sniper quickly responded, shooting and killing the 20-year-old Crooks.
He was found in possession of an AR-style semi-automatic assault rifle purchased by his father and was wearing a shirt from the popular firearms YouTube channel “Demolition Ranch.”
