They were walking down the wrong path.
The New York Police Department fired its latest salvo in its war against reckless vehicles in Manhattan, seizing 39 mopeds and motorcycles, issuing dozens of citations and making one arrest, police said.
The seizure comes amid an alarmingly high rate of mopeds and scooters being used in crime across the city.
“Not on our watch! In response to concerns about lawlessness and quality of life in our community, the Times Square Public Safety Division, Midtown South and Midtown North Precincts will be conducting a joint Moped Operation.
“39 mopeds/bikes were impounded, 40 citations were issued, and one individual was arrested for endangering property after attempting to flee and dragging one of the officers,” NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry posted on X on Friday night.
Daughtry posted four photos of officers struggling with the alleged outlaw.
“Thankfully, the suspect was arrested and the officer escaped with only minor injuries,” Daughtry added.
“Illegal bikes and mopeds are damaging the quality of life in New York City,” Stephen Flo posted, adding, “Unregistered drivers don’t think they need to follow the rules of the road, and motorists and pedestrians alike suffer every day as a result. This is exactly what New Yorkers want to see.”
