The leader of a union representing New York’s most powerful people has warned some leaders in New York City to avoid the funeral of one of their deceased brothers this weekend.
Vincent J. Vallelong, New York City Chairman Sergeant Charity Association, had strong words for New York City Council members regarding the “totally avoidable death” of 31-year-old NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller. “Council members who are vehemently and inexplicably opposed to public safety are responsible for the carnage on the streets,” Valeron said, according to the newspaper. new york post.
On Monday, Diller, a three-year veteran, was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop in Queens, leaving behind his wife, Stephanie, and their 1-year-old child. His murder suspect, 34-year-old Guy Rivera, has been arrested 21 times, according to reports.
Mr. Diller’s funeral will be held Saturday morning at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in Massapequa. Mr Vallelong worries that councilors may attend the funeral and perhaps even “cry crocodile tears”. Because it’s an opportunity to take good photos. Villeron argued that their presence at the funeral would “leave a stain on the legacy of a true hero who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Mr Vallelong also argued that too often councilors’ “words of sympathy and empathy” in such moments sound “empty and untrue”. He even suggested that city council members who “declared war on the police” were at least “morally responsible” for Diller’s death and “should be investigated.”
“Despite advice to the contrary, the council’s ‘leaders’ have betrayed city residents, workers and visitors on every front. They are blinded by their own hatred and distorted ideology.”
Survivors of the Shield, a group made up of widows and widows of New York City police officers, announced that it has started a fundraiser for Diller’s wife and children. “We are Stephanie and [her son] We are all getting through it because we have all been there,” the group’s statement said.
Rivera, the suspect in Diller’s murder, was similarly injured in the incident and is currently hospitalized, but is expected to recover. During treatment, medical professionals reportedly found a small shiv stuck in his rectum.
