On Thursday morning, a 36-year-old Manhattan man was arrested in Miami on suspicion of bludgeoning two homeless people to death and seriously injuring them in what police called an incident of “unprovoked violence.”
Authorities said Brenton Clark began a bloody assault around 6 p.m., hitting four victims with metal rods, including a homeless man who was sleeping on the sidewalk.
Two of the victims succumbed to their injuries, and two others were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center with serious injuries, police said.
“Several people were attacked and all of them were homeless,” Miami Police Chief Manny Morales said at a news conference Thursday.
Clark also allegedly stole the man's belongings while he was asleep.
After the horrifying random attack, an armed witness confronted Mr Clark and he fled before officers could catch him.
Clark was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery with a deadly weapon.

Mr. Morales said Mr. Clark had no criminal history in Miami, but had “some minor criminal conduct with police in New York.”
Clark was ordered held without bail and is scheduled to appear before a divisional judge on Tuesday, according to reports. CBS News Miami.
