A 58-year-old man who was hit in the back of the head by a crazed man during a random street attack in the Bronx last month has died from his injuries, police and officials said Wednesday.
According to police, 29-year-old Dequan Jackson is accused of sneaking up behind the unsuspecting victim around 5 p.m. on August 4 near Jerome Avenue and West Mosholu Parkway North in Norwood and punching him, knocking him to the street.
Paramedics rushed the injured man to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he remained for more than a month and died on September 7, police said.
His identity will not be released until his family has been notified.
Jackson was arrested at the scene and charged with assault, but officials said he may face more serious charges because the victim died.
He has 10 prior arrests, including for assault, endangering, grand theft and unlawful possession of a weapon.
According to sources, Jackson, who lives in the Bronx, was arrested in 2021 and charged with assault after he was accused of hitting his 5-year-old daughter in the arm.

During his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court, he pleaded not guilty to the August assault and was later released without bail, according to court records.
His next court appearance is scheduled for September 17th.
