NYC man who strangled stepson gets slap on wrist as teen’s mom rips ‘taunting’ ex as ‘child killer’

A grieving Bronx teenage mother, fatally strangled by his stepfather, accused the murderer of “unt defeating” by taking photos at the boy's grave.

30-year-old Tyresse Minter was given a 2-4-year light penalty behind the bar after committing a criminally negligent murder last month for killing 15-year-old Corde Scott when he cut off oxygen inside a Westchester Square apartment during a discussion on January 23, 2023.

“You're the reason I had to bury my child. That's what a mother has to do,” accused Scott's grieving mom, Karen Glenn. “And that my husband, whom I should be trusted with, caused my children's death and mental trauma.”

Glenn said the “most outrageous part” of Minter's actions after the death of Young Corde was that he had the courage to ask him to stay with her.

“I miss my son so much. You told me you don't care what you think of you, just what I think, I think you're a child murderer.”

Glenn shed tears early in the hearing and told Judge Audrey Stone that he opposed the offer of pleas from the Bronx District Attorney's Office that the mine was given, and sought the harshest punishment.

Glenn said that her innocent son had just turned 15 a month ago, loved Minter and respected him, but “You took his life.”

“What you did to the codette is inhumane, and doing this with me on the phone and your daughter's present is no less than that [than] Glenn said as about 20 Scott's families sat crying in the courtroom gallery.

The heartbroken mother said the biggest sentence was “I deserve the justice of my son Kode, as you have declared us a life of grief.”

Brittany, Glenn's sister and Scott's aunt, suffered so much with his family that he was furious with the minter for taking away the nephew of his life.

“Reap what you sowed,” Brittany said. “May you have as sleepless nights as you caused me and my family.”

Even prosecutor Alexandra Militano shed tears during the lawsuit.

“This is fully negotiated, but in this case, I am grateful that the family is suffering from great losses,” Militano said. “But I want to thank them because they've always been here since the case began.”

Minter, wearing an orange jumpsuit, refused to make a statement, staring at the stone face on the wall in front of him as Scott's family made heartbreaking statements.

At the end of the hearing, he turned to a handful of supporters and said, “I love you.”

His lawyer, Alec Milan, spoke on his behalf before the punishment was taken over, saying, “I can't express how sorry Mr. Minter is and how regretful he is.”

The defense attorney said he hopes his client can change what happened.

“The only thing he can do to move forward is to take responsibility and face the consequences for it,” Milan said, adding that he hopes it will help the grief process.

The judge told Minter he wanted to take “real responsibility” for what he did.

“There is no safer place for people than their home. In this case, not just Code, Code's mother, your daughter, Bella, but they experienced deep mistrust that followed with them due to the anxiety and instability and violence experienced at home,” Stone said.

He faces another sentence on March 11 after violating his parole in another case when he killed Scott. The sentence is provided after he completes his first sentence.

Outside the court, Glenn said she was “very disappointed” that she was given a plea bargain miner.

“Today, despite our disappointment with the offer of a plea bargain, we are pleased that our child murderer has been sentenced to prison and that our son has achieved justice,” the mother said.

Scott's dad Tyrell Scott added that the whole family is “harmed.”

“Since the absence of outfits, there have been undisappearing changes in my life,” his father said. “We got justice, but what we need is not righteousness. We were able to thank God for that and thank God that he was behind the bar now.”

His stepfather, who served in prison for three years due to his conviction in a previous attack, was notoriously released from prison after the murder, despite being parole when he committed violent acts.

Minter's release move by Judge Naita Semaj won rage, urging Gov. Kathy Hochul to intervene, and re-arrested state officials for violating parole. Semaji was relegated to civil lawsuit after a controversial decision in Minter's case.

Prosecutors say Minter wrapped his legs and arms around the boy and cut off his oxygen.

Minter's lawyer claimed that his client was actually trying to help a teenager who was in the middle of a suicide episode, and that he was about to leave the knife from the boy.
