NYC Mayor Eric Adams set to meet with incoming Trump border czar Tom Homan next week

Mayor Eric Adams is scheduled to meet with President-elect Donald Trump's “border czar” Tom Homan next week as the city prepares for a major shift in immigration policy by the incoming White House administration.

“I look forward to sitting down and talking with the border czar next week,” Adams said on MSNBC Thursday morning.

“I want to hear the actual plan, and I want to know how it's going to be implemented,” Adams said, adding that he has “not been silent” about his feelings toward immigrants who have committed “violent crimes” in the Big Apple. added.

The mayor told MSNBC, “I would like to hear the Border Emperor's plan to deal with this issue.''

The Post reports that a sit-in is scheduled for next Thursday morning at City Hall.

The meeting comes as Mr. Hitzsoner has signaled he is open to taking a tougher stance and relaxing sanctuary city rules that prohibit local officials from cooperating with federal immigration authorities.

Adams told reporters on Tuesday that asylum seekers should be deported after being charged with a crime.

He has previously argued that asylum seekers should only be deported after being convicted and serving time in jail or prison.

“These people here are a disservice to our country, committing crimes, robberies, shooting police officers, raping innocent people,” Adams said at his weekly off-topic news conference. .

Changes to sanctuary city laws would require city council approval or executive order, the latter of which would likely face legal challenges.

Since the presidential election, city officials have been preparing behind the scenes for the transition from the Biden-Harris administration, which welcomed asylum seekers with soft border policies, to the Trump administration, which calls for mass deportations.

Homan said he intends to crack down on sanctuary jurisdictions if they don't cooperate with the federal government, even threatening to withhold federal funding from cities that don't comply.
