The head of the Manhattan Council, which partners with the NYPD, resigns after being exposed to the post for destroying an Israeli hostage poster
Robert Jossman, a longtime member of the Upper West Side Volunteer 24th District Community Council, resigned last week amid demands of action against repeated removal of hostage posters painted near the synagogue.
One day, he reported to residents last month that he confronted him that it was illegal to post anything on a NYC property and told him he had consulted police.
However, critics said he hadn’t removed other flyers, and claimed that he “directly undermined his role by showing obvious hatred” towards the Jews, according to a letter sent to city officials.
“Update: Anti-Semble Robert Jossman resigns as president of the NYPD 24th district [Council]”The watchdog group Stopantisemitism posted on X the day after the board’s April meeting.
The Upper West Side is home to one of the Big Apple’s biggest Jewish communities, and has seen some of the city’s most hate crimes in the past two years.
The Precinct Community Council aims to improve community political relations and address issues of public safety and quality of life.
Jossman did not reply to requests for comment and said the NYPD does not oversee the council.
