Republican Leaders Rally Behind Michael Henry in Attorney General Race

ALBANY – Five Republican leaders from New York City are backing candidates looking to challenge Attorney General Letitia James, who is facing indictment, according to reports.

Michael Henry, who is making another run for the position after losing to James in 2022, now has the endorsement of five Republican chairmen from various wards.

“He really understands what New Yorkers are dealing with and won’t cave to political pressure or what some are calling a partisan witch hunt,” stated Liam McCabe, chairman of the Brooklyn Republican Party.

Henry, a commercial litigator, secured 45% of the vote in his previous campaign against James, which was noted as “the best result for a Republican in decades,” according to McCabe. He has been actively meeting voters across all 62 counties.

As of the end of June, Henry reported having around $275,000 in campaign funds and intends to utilize the statewide campaign finance matching system to amplify small contributions.

“He embodies the common-sense, law-and-order stance that New York needs at this time. Letitia James has let down New Yorkers—Michael Henry won’t do the same,” remarked Michael Tanousis, Chairman of the Staten Island Republican Party.

Henry also commented on the indictment facing Tisch, asserting his commitment to not use the law as a political tool.

“New Yorkers deserve an attorney general who will enforce the law equitably, not weaponize it for political gain. Together, we can restore justice, integrity, and accountability to New York State,” he expressed in a statement.

Henry has also received backing from Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) from the North Country, who is looking to challenge Governor Kathy Hochul in the upcoming gubernatorial race.

Mike Rendino, Bronx Republican Party chairman, criticized Letitia James, saying, “She has turned the Attorney General’s office into a political weapon instead of a force for justice.”

Support also comes from Tony Nunziato, chair of the Queens Republican Party, and Andrea Catsimatidis, chair of the Manhattan Republican Party.
