A 15-year-old boy is in police custody after officers allegedly witnessed him fatally shooting a man near a courthouse in the Bronx in broad daylight Wednesday.
Police said officers with the 44th Precinct were on patrol in the area of East 161st Street and Morris Street around 2:40 p.m. when a juvenile pulled out a gun and fired several shots at a 29-year-old man. He said he witnessed it happen.
Police said the man was shot once in the chest, but the boy ran away.
Emergency services transported the victim to Lincoln Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the NYPD said.
Officers watched the shooting unfold and pursued the baby-faced gunman, catching him several blocks away at East 156th Street and Cortland Avenue, where he was taken into custody.
Investigators recovered a firearm at the scene.
Charges against the boy were pending as of late Wednesday night.
Police are investigating whether the fatal shooting was gang-related, officials said.
