City began the season with 15 players on the senior roster and 10 more players on the supplementary roster.

In 2024, there were 20 players on the senior roster and six on the supplementary roster.

Lee has chosen the U22 Initiative Roster Construction Model. This allows for two specified player slots and three U22 slots. This allows MLS clubs to sign up for “favorable contracts and budget cuts” to three players under the age of 22.

The NYCFC has two international slots open and an unused U22 spot. That means Lee has several different ways he can add to his 2025 team.

The NYCFC opened the season with a 2-2 draw after delaying the equalising goal of stop-time.

They will travel to Los Angeles to play against LAFC on Saturday night.

Janssen said his team's approach will not change in future games, and told reporters the focus is on “trying to get a bulletproof mindset and bulletproof approach in every game” that the NYCFC will be performing this season.
