NYPD condemns ‘Cowardly’ would-be NYC shooting victims who used mother as human shield

These days, large numbers of potential victims of violent crime resort to self-defense, often with remarkable courage, to protect themselves from harm. Meanwhile, the target of a brazen public shooting at a Bronx convenience store is accused of seeking safety behind a 40-year-old mother who was with her 12-year-old daughter.

According to WCBS TVthe shooting occurred Monday just before 5 p.m. Police said the two men who fired the shots have not yet been identified or arrested. They appeared to fire at a group of people standing outside the G&W grocery store. As the shooting began, the victims ran into the store for safety, and one of them grabbed a 40-year-old mother who was inside the store, using her as a human shield.

The mother was shot once in the abdomen, and her 12-year-old daughter was also shot in the leg.

Fortunately, no one was killed in the incident, but six people, including a mother and her daughter, were injured.

NYPD Sergeant John Chell condemned the shooting, but also criticized the “despicable” response of the alleged victims. According to new york postsaid Chel.[It’s] This is a brazen and heartless attack on a despicable victim, using an innocent New Yorker and his mother as a shield. ”

Chell also said the motive for the shooting is still unknown. The suspects are still on the run, and no details have been released other than what they were wearing at the time of the shooting. Presumably, these suspects have already changed their attire, making this information less useful.

Several area residents said the incident had shaken their confidence in the safety of their neighborhood.

Darnell Smith, a resident of the area, told WCBS: “I can't walk through my neighborhood with people shooting guns and shooting guns. It's crazy.”
