An op-ed in the New York Times attributes President-elect Donald Trump's success in the 2024 election to angry young people and the “manosphere” they have created, which the author describes as “the “reinforcing breadwinner norms.''

The piece, written by playwright Sarah Bernstein, says, “Our cultural narrative is that women's status improves by marrying more successful men, and men's status improves by marrying more successful women.” “It still reflects the idea that the economy will decline.”

The editorial titled“How our screwed-up dating culture is leading to loneliness, anger, and Donald Trump,” pointed out that men's and women's fortunes tend to be opposite. After Trump was declared the winner over Harris, many blamed his victory on sexism, misogyny, and racism.

“Fairy tales are becoming more and more unattainable now that women are making strides forward. This development is causing men and women to retreat into old gender stereotypes, reinforcing the hostile divide between men and women that fuels an exploding manosphere.” Given our collective love lives. It's no wonder Americans are experiencing a spiral of anger that threatens society, as evidenced by soaring feelings of loneliness, declining birth rates, and Donald Trump's popularity among young men. We will rebuild our democracy,” Bernstein said.

Bernstein argued that modern romantic comedies promote the idea that women should have successful careers and have “husbands who are doing a slightly better job than they are.”

The “male breadwinner norm,” she wrote, paved the way for the creation of the manosphere. According to Bernstein, the manosphere is “the space occupied by new media podcasters and their favored politicians who sell retrograde programming to gain attention, votes, and money.” A version of masculinity to solve men's problems. ”

President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris appeared on several popular podcasts ahead of the 2024 election. The president-elect joins the likes of Nerk Boyz, Joe Rogan and Theo Vung in appealing to young male voters.

“So-called female gold diggers are a manosphere obsession, much of which reinforces the male breadwinner norm that associates money with masculinity and that women prefer providers over biology. ,” Bernstein wrote.

Harris has appeared on podcasts such as the “Call her Daddy” podcast and Shannon Sharpe's “Club Shay Shay.” The Harris campaign tried to have the vice president appear on Logan's podcast, but that ultimately fell through.

The numbers suggest a shift for Gen Z as a whole. Democrats have historically relied on at least 60% of the youth vote, but early exit polls showed Harris' support among young people was just 54%. NPR reported.

“This zero-sum paradigm has always been a hallmark of Trumpism, aimed at securing resources for the right kinds of people. But if we're going to reject the manosphere's narrow notions of masculinity, You'll see possibilities for both. Don't let anyone tell you that this future is a fairy tale, so that men and women can grow at the same time, both in work and in love.” Bernstein concluded.
