Obama Appointed Biden to Lead Campaign to Cut Government Waste in 2011

A 2011 video in which then-President Barack Obama denounced government waste and appointed then-President Joe Biden to lead a “sales campaign to cut spending,” resurfaced, urging Elon Musk to say “doge” government efficiency (DOGE) “sounds exactly the same.”

Like President Donald Trump, Obama also took executive action with the goal of reducing spending for useless government projects, including a “folk music ensemble made up of forest rangers” and a website dedicated to buildings where no one works.

“Obama sounds exactly the same @doge !!” Elon Musk said in response to the video:

“They're called Fidolin's Forester,” Obama said. “I put their music on my iPod, but I'm not paying for their website, and there are hundreds of similar sites that we should integrate or just remove.”

He continued. “By the way, you don't just pay for websites that no one needs. You're paying for thousands of buildings across the country that no one uses. For the past decade, the government has, for example, owned a huge, completely empty warehouse in the middle of Brooklyn.”

The Democratic president then announced Biden as the leader of “a new effort to hunt taxes that are missed in all agencies and sectors of this government,” adding that “no one will ruin Joe.”

Biden also issued a statement in video.

There is a new standard for the government to make this point work. Americans are entitled to transparency. Look, much of this depends on new and refined ways, but it also relies on a relentless focus on making this a priority. A focus that cannot be delegated. We are deeply committed and focused on improving the functioning of government. It's not just about eliminating fraud and waste. We want to instill a new culture that not only our administrations, but all successful administrations actually pursue. We are going to give you the government you expect and deserve.
