Obama quickly comes to Abdul El-Sayed's aid in Detroit as GOP gives harsh reply

The Republican Party in Michigan responded derisively after Democrat Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed announced that former President Barack Obama would join him on the campaign trail.

Following Sen. Gary Peters’ retirement announcement 18 months ago, El-Sayed is competing to secure the seat for Democrats. A loss here would significantly enhance the Republicans’ efforts to maintain control of the U.S. Senate.

‘President Obama is parachuting into Michigan, in a desperate attempt to revive Conman Abdul’s struggling campaign,’ was one of the party’s jibes.

El-Sayed stated on Monday that Obama would attend a rally in Detroit at the end of October as part of his campaign against Republican Mike Rogers. Some Black voters in Detroit have raised concerns about El-Sayed’s candidacy.

“It is my honor and privilege to announce that President @BarackObama is joining us on the trail in Detroit,” wrote El-Sayed on social media.

If El-Sayed is successful, he would make history as the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Senate. Republicans have criticized him for extremist remarks and his connections to figures like influencer Hasan Piker, whom they label anti-American.

Greg Manz, a senior communications adviser for the Michigan GOP, ridiculed the news in a statement. “President Obama’s upcoming trip to Detroit shows Conman Abdul El-Sayed has a serious issue with his base. It’s not surprising that Democrats are on the defensive in a city where ‘Democrats for Rogers’ has gained traction — voters here are leaving him because working families don’t want their taxes raised for an expensive, government-run healthcare plan,” he stated.

Manz further commented, “President Obama is parachuting into Michigan, in a desperate attempt to revive Conman Abdul’s floundering campaign because support from Democrats is fading rapidly in Detroit — it’s truly a Hail Mary for a candidate who struggles to rally his own supporters.”

The Democrats for Rogers group also issued a statement that included comments from El-Sayed criticizing Obama during the latter’s re-election campaign in 2012.

“[Obama] has perpetuated war, violated our civil liberties, deported more individuals than any previous president, and the list of his failures goes on,” El-Sayed stated back then.

Additionally, failed presidential contender Kamala Harris has already joined the campaign trail in support of El-Sayed.
