Obama states the reason behind the shooting at the Correspondents' Dinner is still uncertain

Obama Comments on Shooting Incident

Former President Barack Obama voiced concerns regarding the unclear motive behind a shooting that occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Investigators are looking into the suspect’s documents, which reportedly detail a plan targeting President Donald Trump and his administration’s members.

In a statement on X, Obama first acknowledged the lack of confirmed details about the shooting’s motivations before condemning the violence and commending the Secret Service. He wrote, “While we do not yet know the details of the motive behind last night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, it is incumbent on all of us to reject the idea that violence exists in a democracy.” He added, “It also serves as a solemn reminder of the courage and sacrifice that U.S. Secret Service members demonstrate every day.” Obama expressed gratitude for the safety of the agent involved in the incident.

Questions were raised, particularly by Bongino, about the security measures in place during the event, suggesting these may have been inadequate.

Authorities identified the shooter as Cole Allen, 31, from California. Evidence suggests he fired shots into the Washington Hilton, where the event was held, with many dignitaries, including Trump, in attendance.

Federal law enforcement confirmed that after his arrest, Allen created a manifesto indicating his intentions to target Trump officials, along with sharing anti-Trump and anti-Christian sentiments online. These documents identified various government officials as potential targets and included grievances regarding the Trump administration, which investigators are now examining closely.

As the investigation unfolds, officials have yet to determine a clear motive. In a recent interview, President Trump reacted to portions of Allen’s alleged manifesto, expressing discontent with the focus on its content.

During the interview with “60 Minutes,” host Norah O’Donnell referenced a text where the shooter declared administration officials as “targets” and made inflammatory comments regarding Trump, seeking his response. Trump reacted by saying, “I was waiting for you to read it, because I knew you would…You are terrible people,” and asserted his innocence.

Trump criticized the media, asserting, “I’m not like that,” and expressed embarrassment at the question. He concluded the interaction by signaling a desire to end the interview.
