Ocasio-Cortez urges New Yorkers to confront the South, then makes an embarrassing error

Ocasio-Cortez’s Speech in Alabama Hits a Snag

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (New York) sparked attention with her passionate appeal for liberals to “fight the South,” but her message took a hit due to a notable slip in her speech.

During her address in Montgomery, Alabama, on Saturday, Ocasio-Cortez, a member of the far-left Socialist Party, used language that seemed inspired by Civil War sentiment.

“What they thought was the final straw was actually just an entrance silo!” she exclaimed, attempting to rally her supporters.

She pointed fingers at Republican-led states for manipulating district boundaries to favor their party ahead of the midterm congressional elections. “If you’re watching today and wondering, ‘What can I do?’” she posed, “It’s time for the North to pull up to the South! It’s time for New York to pull up to Alabama! It’s time for us all to pull up to Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee, and Mississippi!” Her call to action elicited loud applause.

The phrase “pull up” is frequently used to describe jumping into the fray.

Ocasio-Cortez asserted that opponents underestimate the strength of their movement, saying, “They think they can remove us from power. They don’t know about the sleeping giant who just woke up!”

However, her ending misstep occurred when she meant to say “volley” but instead said “silo,” leading to some confusion. “So if you’re not coming from here, it’s time to pull up! Because what they thought was the final straw is actually just an entrance silo!” she added.

Footage of this mistake quickly made the rounds online, drawing ridicule from critics.

One user on X commented, “She can’t help but take every opportunity to show the world how low her IQ is.”

This wasn’t the first time she made a similar error; in a previous post, she referred to the “silos” of Republican rhetoric, which she used as a metaphor in her criticism of the party.

Interestingly, in her YouTube video of the speech, the caption notes “volley fire,” not “silo.”
