Oddsmakers project Shohei Ohtani to become the first 50-50 player in MLB history.
With just a few weeks left in the 2024 season, FanDuel Sportsbook has Ohtani at -350 odds to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases, something no player has ever done in a single season.
Entering Wednesday's game, Ohtani had 48 career home runs and 48 stolen bases, needing two of each in 11 more games to reach those marks.
He has already become just the sixth player to join the 40-40 club, joining Ronald Acuña Jr., Alfonso Soriano, Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds and Jose Canseco, who all achieved the feat last year.
It wasn't until recently that Ohtani was beginning to look like he had a good chance of reaching the 50-50 mark.
Through his first three months, Ohtani had just 16 stolen bases, and 50 seemed unlikely.
He began stealing more in July, 12 times that month, and another 15 times in August.
Prior to this year, Ohtani had never stolen more than 26 bases in a season.
Hitting 50 home runs in a season wasn't easy either.
He hit just six home runs in July, but was on pace to surpass the mark with 14 in August.
His 48 home runs are already a career high.
