Offensive messages about Shedeur Sanders coverage spark media controversy, leading to a threat of 'appropriate action'

There’s been quite a stir regarding Shedul Sanders’ performance, possibly leading to some legal implications.

Reporter Josina Anderson found herself in hot water after she allegedly threatened The Athletic’s Zach Jackson with “appropriate action.” This came after Jackson disclosed he received a harsh message directed at Sanders, purportedly from someone claiming to be Anderson’s sister.

In response, Anderson said on X, “This defamatory accusation made by The Athletic’s @AkronJackson on his podcast is completely false. I do not have a sister named ‘Sheila Anderson,’ and no sister has ever contacted Zach Jackson in any way, shape, or form. I listened to the reported podcast and cannot believe that Jackson would recklessly share that story without first confirming these claims. I will address this with appropriate action.”

By Saturday morning, Jackson had yet to respond on his X account.

The situation escalated when Jackson revealed that he had been contacted multiple times via emails and social media by someone claiming to be Josina Anderson’s sister during an episode of his podcast.

Jackson described the messages as “unsubstantiated personal claims” and characterized them as “despicable.” He quoted one message: “So Shedur should forget what happened in the summer. Aren’t you the same mongrel who lied about what happened during the draft with him last month?”

One particularly harsh message accused Anderson of being a “vile, pathetic creature” and criticized the Cleveland media for writing lies about Sanders, saying things like, “I hope you live a miserable life. There’s no one to blame for that. Blame your parents for starting 400 years early in this society.”

Another person warned that the sender might be struggling with mental health issues.

During the back-and-forth exchanges, the sender claimed, “Oh, I did send it twice to make sure you got the message. The fact that you replied shows that I’m nervous.” The tone shifted to confrontational, with accusations of racial bias surfacing.

Another email bluntly stated, “I have no idea who the white guy is. Try to guess who my sister is. I can’t wait to see the look on your face.”

On his podcast, Jackson criticized Anderson for what he perceived as bias against Deion Sanders’ son, emphasizing, “This person is claiming to be related and delivering this message, which means, Josina, you’re stirring up this kind of hate. And that’s bullshit.”

On Tuesday, Jackson reflected on the situation, admitting the message “probably shouldn’t have been published” and considered deleting the podcast episode. He concluded, “I didn’t need to keep the flame burning. I didn’t need to share the ridiculousness that comes with it.”
