Officers fatally shoot man who rushed at them with a knife after a domestic argument.

Authorities report that officers shot and killed a 25-year-old man who lunged at them with a knife in a Brooklyn apartment on Tuesday afternoon.

Two officers arrived at 108 Christopher Avenue in Brownsville shortly before 3 PM. Reports indicated that a woman, concerned about her safety, had informed police that her ex-boyfriend—who had a history of violent threats—might be on his way to harm her or her child’s babysitter, according to the NYPD. This information was shared during a press briefing later that evening.

The woman, who was with her child at the time, expressed fear that her former partner was intent on causing her harm.

Upon entering the building, the woman met the police in the lobby and led them to her apartment, where they encountered the suspect.

As the assailant approached while brandishing the knife, one officer attempted to subdue him with a Taser, but it failed to stop his advance. This prompted a second officer to shoot the man twice in the chest.

The suspect was transported to Brookdale Hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

His identity has not been disclosed. Police confirmed that the incident was recorded on body cameras worn by the officers involved, who were later taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Fortunately, neither the woman, her child, nor the responding officers sustained injuries during the event.

Authorities recovered the knife used in the incident and are currently investigating how the suspect gained entry into the apartment.

The investigation is ongoing.
