Officers fire at vehicle near Coast Guard base amid immigration protest actions

Police shoot at truck outside Coast Guard base during immigration crackdown protests

Late Thursday night, law enforcement officers opened fire on a truck near a U.S. Coast Guard base in Alameda, California, amid growing protests against the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

This incident followed several days of demonstrations planned around the base intended for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) operations.

The Coast Guard posted a statement on social media early Friday detailing the events, which unfolded around 10 p.m. They mentioned that security personnel had observed “unusual” behavior before the vehicle attempted to return to the base.

According to footage aired by CBS News, the truck was seen backing toward a line of personnel stationed nearby before speeding away as officers began shooting.

“Despite multiple verbal commands from Coast Guard personnel to stop, the driver did not comply and put the vehicle in reverse,” the Coast Guard’s statement noted. “Law enforcement officers fired multiple live rounds as the vehicle’s actions posed a direct threat to safety.”

Fortunately, no Coast Guard personnel were reported injured. However, CBS also mentioned that witnesses claimed the truck hit two bystanders, though details about any injuries remain unclear.

The statement indicated that the FBI would be leading the investigation, with the Coast Guard cooperating with other law enforcement agencies.

More than 100 protesters gathered at the base earlier Thursday in anticipation of its use during planned immigration enforcement operations by CBP in San Francisco, located roughly 25 miles away.

CBP personnel had begun arriving in the area early that morning, while some demonstrators attempted to block vehicles from entering the gates. In response, authorities deployed smoke grenades and flashbangs to disperse the crowd.

Recently, government officials have raised concerns about the safety of law enforcement amid heightened political tensions surrounding President Trump’s aggressive deportation policies.

In September, an armed attack at an ICE facility in Texas resulted in the death of a detainee.

“The relentless attacks on law enforcement, especially ICE, must stop,” Vice President Vance stated on social media at the time. “We are praying for all those affected by this attack and their families.”
