Official flounders when questioned about two-state solution

Bonnie Jenkins, Under Secretary of Arms Control and Ambassador for International Security shown The Biden administration has said it is pushing for a two-state solution, but balked when faced with questions about the issue from Republican Rep. Blaine Mast of Florida.

“Have you analyzed it objectively?” Mast asked about support for a two-state solution.

Mr. Jenkins reiterated that this is a policy that “we support.”

Mast continued to ask questions.

“I don’t know exactly what you’re hearing, but have I personally analyzed it?” Jenkins asked.

When Mast continued to press the issue, Jenkins responded, “No, it’s not,” adding a caveat, “If I understand your question.”

The lawmaker asked Mr Jenkins: “Do you represent support for a Palestinian state?”

“Yes,” she answered.

“Have you ever objectively analyzed that support?” Mast asked.

“Yes,” she answered.

Moving on from that topic, Mast repeatedly asked Jenkins which group he believed would “lead that Palestinian state.”

Mr Jenkins said the question needed to be considered, but he did not believe he was in a position to answer.

Mr. Mast pursued the issue, but Mr. Jenkins said he did not believe he could answer the question and that the issue was part of a larger discussion.

Mast attempted to ask Jenkins whether he had evaluated who would be at the helm of a Palestinian state.

Mr Jenkins said the issue belonged to a broader discussion and he could not specifically answer questions about what he thought.

So Mast kept asking.

“I support a two-state solution,” Jenkins said.

Still, Mast didn’t leave her alone and continued to ask questions.

“This issue will be evaluated within the U.S. government,” Jenkins said, adding that he was not in a position to respond because it was part of a larger discussion.

“Why do you think we have to create a country out of people who just committed a genocide against Jews four months ago?” Mast asked.

Jenkins said she didn’t know what Mast was asking.

Ms. Mast asked again, and Mr. Jenkins said that although she would like to answer, she did not feel she was in a position to answer such a question. She said it was a question for the US government.

in post On The truth is: Hamas is a popularly elected government, and as a result, a Palestinian state would be run by terrorists.”
