Officials at the US border confiscate almost 600 pounds of methamphetamine.

Earlier this month, Canadian border officials confiscated about 600 pounds of suspected methamphetamine at the border with the U.S.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) revealed the details of the seizure on Tuesday, even though the actual event took place on February 4.

Kulbir Singh, a 29-year-old from Canada, is accused of transporting drugs from the U.S. into Canada.

According to a statement from the CBSA, on February 4, a commercial vehicle arriving at the Blue Water Bridge was selected for a secondary inspection. During this check, officers, aided by sniffer dogs, discovered 16 duffel bags filled with suspected methamphetamine.

The total weight was around 266.4 kg, which is just over 587 pounds.

Singh now faces charges in Canada for importing methamphetamine and possessing it for the intent to traffic.

In southern Ontario, the CBSA reported a total of 1,359 pounds of methamphetamine has been seized from the U.S. since January 2025.

This news comes at a time when relations between Canada and the Trump administration appear to be strained. Recently, President Trump has voiced concerns over tariffs and trade negotiations that Canada is exploring with China.

Trump threatened to prevent the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which is named after a famous Canadian hockey player. This bridge is under construction to connect Detroit, Michigan, with Windsor, Ontario.

“I will not allow this bridge to open until the United States is fully compensated for everything we have given, and importantly, until Canada treats the United States with the fairness and respect we deserve,” Trump stated in a post.

He added that negotiations would begin immediately and mentioned that the U.S. expects a significant stake in the asset given the circumstances.

Trump has also pointed out the removal of American alcohol products from Ontario’s liquor store shelves as a grievance, accusing Canada of unfairly benefiting from U.S. trade policies.

In his remarks, he further claimed that the bridge is being constructed with “virtually no American content.”
