Jeff Sperbeck, who was a longtime agent and close friend of John Elway, passed away following a severe accident involving a golf cart. He was 62 years old.
Reports indicate that Elway was driving a vehicle during the incident. The Riverside County Coroner confirmed that Sperbeck died on April 30 at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California, after sustaining injuries four days prior in La Quinta.
The coroner’s office stated that his death was due to a blunt head injury, ruling it an accident. They noted that the injury happened when a passenger fell from the golf cart.
Last week, Sheriff Chad Bianco mentioned that investigators found no evidence of criminal activity related to the incident, describing it as a terrible accident. He also remarked that the individuals involved were “very well-known celebrities,” hinting that this heightened media scrutiny around the case. Bianco assured the public that they were diligently working to confirm the situation’s nature.
Elway expressed his deep sorrow, saying he was “devastated and heartbroken” over the loss of his best friend. In his statement, he mentioned the profound sadness that accompanied Sperbeck’s unexpected passing.
Elway, a two-time Super Bowl champion, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
