Ohio Man Accused of Murdering Wife, Allegedly Staged Crime Scene
In court documents, Ohio authorities have revealed details about Caleb Flynn, who is charged with the murder of his wife, Ashley Flynn. Allegations suggest that he staged the crime scene in an attempt to mislead detectives.
Caleb Flynn, 39, faces a murder charge after Ashley Flynn, a mother, teacher, and volleyball coach, was shot at their home in Tipp City on February 16. In a 911 call, Caleb claimed that an intruder had entered their home and shot Ashley twice.
He is charged with murder, two counts of felonious assault with a deadly weapon, and two counts of tampering with evidence. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Miami County Jail at 5:07 p.m. on Thursday. He appeared in court the next morning, pleading not guilty, with a bond set at $2 million. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for February 26.
Prosecutors stated in court documents that Caleb used a 9mm handgun and altered the crime scene to evade police detection.
In a report, officers from Tipp City noted that a side door to the garage was open. They observed a large refrigerator blocking the door, making access difficult. Additionally, police found an open center console in a 2024 Ford truck parked in the garage, where Caleb allegedly stored a handgun.
Caleb Flynn voluntarily met with police officers at the station, and according to court records, two bullet casings were discovered on the bedroom floor. One dispatch report mentioned that Caleb was “hyperventilating” when the police arrived.
During the emergency call, Caleb expressed panic, saying, “Oh my god, someone broke into my house. Someone broke into my house and shot my wife.” He repeatedly mentioned the severity of Ashley’s injuries, noting that there was “blood everywhere.”
When asked if Ashley was breathing, he replied, “No, I don’t think so,” expressing distress by calling out her name.
Interestingly, he claimed that the door leading to the garage was “wide open” at the time of the incident.
Caleb’s attorney, L. Patrick Mulligan, has stated concerns about the prosecution’s haste in charging his client. He expressed disappointment about the rushed timeline, arguing that it raises the risk of wrongful conviction when investigators focus on surviving spouses after initial leads fail to develop.
Caleb Flynn is also known for his appearance on “American Idol,” where he once professed his love for his wife in a 2013 interview, mentioning how important she was to him.
