A 19-year-old student from Ohio State was discovered dead at the soccer stadium on Friday morning.
William Myers from Fairfield, Connecticut, was found at the northeast corner of Ohio Stadium, as reported by local authorities.
Emergency responders arrived at the stadium in Columbus before 10 a.m. where they made the unfortunate discovery.
The specific cause of death hasn’t been disclosed yet, but officials have stated that foul play is not suspected.
Myers was a third-year accounting major at the university, according to the student newspaper.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this challenging time,” said university spokesman Ben Johnson.
Meanwhile, Ohio State’s Buckeyes football team traveled to Seattle to secure a 24-6 victory against Washington University after a break from playing at home.
Currently, they hold the top spot in the FBS rankings after an impressive win over Texas in Week 1.
Ohio Stadium, often referred to as “The Horseshoe,” opened in 1922 and has since undergone various renovations, accommodating 102,780 spectators.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first tragedy at the stadium. Last May, a woman jumped to her death during the opening ceremony for her daughter’s graduation.
The individual, Mamala Lissablady from Georgia, suffered fatal injuries after climbing a concrete wall. Following months of speculation, her death was ruled a suicide.
It was revealed that she had a history of bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and anxiety, and had struggled with previous suicide attempts earlier in the year.
