Teamsters Back Vivek Ramaswamy for Ohio Governor
The Ohio Teamsters have given their support to Vivek Ramaswamy for governor, marking a shift from their previous backing of Democrats. This was confirmed by his campaign to Fox News Digital.
According to the Ohio State Dispatch, Ramaswamy, a biotechnology entrepreneur and former 2024 presidential candidate, has already secured backing from several unions as he heads into the 2026 gubernatorial race.
His campaign highlighted endorsements from the Ohio Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Association, the Central Midwest Regional Council of Carpenters, the Cleveland Architecture and Construction Trade Council, along with the Northwest Ohio Architecture and Construction Trade Council.
Interestingly, the Ohio State Pipe Fitters Association and the Central Midwest Carpenters Association still support Democratic Senate nominee Sherrod Brown.
Ramaswamy’s credibility appears bolstered by endorsements from former President Donald Trump and the Ohio Republican Party.
Previously, the Ohio Teamsters, representing over 50,000 workers statewide, had supported Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan.
According to the Ramaswamy campaign, he raised nearly $220,000 in contributions from individuals who initially supported Ryan.
One Teamster representative stated, “We’re proud to support Vivek Ramaswamy for governor. Our members want leaders who advocate for well-paying jobs and strengthen the future for working families in Ohio. Vivek has shown a genuine commitment to engaging with labor and partnering with us for real outcomes. We’re looking forward to working together.”
Ramaswamy expressed gratitude for the Teamsters’ support, emphasizing that his campaign is not just about left versus right, but rather about uplifting the working class. “We are creating a movement that honors work dignity, rewards those who drive the economy, and guarantees that everyone in Ohio gets a fair chance at achieving the American dream.”
In the meantime, former Ohio Health Director Dr. Amy Acton is emerging as a prominent Democratic contender in the gubernatorial race.
