Principal Tackles Shooter in Oklahoma High School Incident
In a shocking event captured on video, a brave school principal in Oklahoma intervened when a former student, obsessed with the Columbine shooting, opened fire at Pauls Valley High School last Tuesday.
Kirk Moore, aged 60, apprehended 20-year-old Victor Lee Hawkins, who was wielding two semi-automatic handguns. The situation unfolded in the school’s lobby, as reported by police. Surveillance footage highlighted the remarkable act of courage by Moore.
Moore sustained injuries in the incident, making him the sole victim when Hawkins unleashed gunfire within the school. His quick actions are credited with preventing an even more devastating tragedy.
According to court documents, Hawkins allegedly expressed hatred for Principal Moore, stating he “went to the school to kill” him. He forced everyone to the ground and attempted to target a student before his weapon unexpectedly malfunctioned, which likely prevented further harm.
Moore, who has dedicated over 35 years to the school district, rushed toward the noise, only to confront Hawkins. The shooter reportedly aimed at Moore’s head and fired, resulting in a bullet hitting the principal in the leg.
In an astonishing display of bravery, Moore managed to tackle Hawkins onto a nearby bench, amidst chaos as students fled. He held onto Hawkins’ right hand, preventing further shots from being fired.
A fellow staff member, noticing the danger, rushed in to assist by kicking the gun away from the scene.
Hunter McKee from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation commended the swift response of Moore and the school staff, emphasizing that their actions likely saved lives that day.
Superintendent Brett Knight labeled Moore a “hero,” mentioning the profound impact he had on his own career as a mentor.
Councilor Khan Nirschul voiced his gratitude for Moore’s intervention, acknowledging that his actions undoubtedly saved lives.
In a troubling admission, Hawkins disclosed that he took the firearm from his father, expressing a desire to replicate the notorious Columbine shooting, which tragically claimed 14 lives back in 1999.
As for Hawkins, he faces several charges, including intent to kill, and is set for a court appearance on May 8. Moore, meanwhile, is reported to be recovering well after being hospitalized.
