Man Sentenced for False Confession Related to Shooting

An elderly man was caught on video shouting, “Shoot!” after Charlie Kirk made an erroneous confession regarding a shooting incident. The man, 71-year-old George Ginn, pleaded no contest to a third-degree obstruction of justice charge.

This confusion unfolded after Kirk was fatally shot at Utah Valley University on September 10, with Ginn claiming to be the shooter. During his arrest, he was seen being dragged away with his pants around his ankles.

Subsequent police investigations led to the discovery of child sexual abuse material on Ginn’s phone, resulting in additional charges. He also entered a guilty plea to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor while denying any intent to threaten children.

Judge Thomas Lowe of Utah’s Fourth District Court sentenced Ginn to a potential maximum of 15 years in prison, leaving the final decision on his sentence length to the parole board.

Ginn, who contributed to conspiracy theories surrounding the shootings, has a history of disruptive behavior at prominent political and cultural events in Utah and has faced arrest over 20 times, including for making bomb threats via email to the Salt Lake City Marathon.

Authorities reported that Ginn admitted to attempting to distract law enforcement from securing the scene and finding the actual shooter.

Tyler James Robinson, 22, was charged with Kirk’s murder, supported by substantial evidence including a written confession and physical traces.

During his court plea for leniency, Ginn did not reference Charlie Kirk. “I want to forget the past and move forward,” he expressed with evident emotion.

His legal representative, Carly Madsen, argued that Ginn never quite fit in and received inadequate support, highlighting a lack of love and resources throughout his life.
