Olive Garden is not just famous for its unlimited breadsticks; a recent survey has shown that it’s a popular choice among baby boomers. According to YouGov’s U.S. restaurant brand rankings, which surveyed 7,500 adults aged 65 and above, 33.8% of respondents said they would consider dining at Olive Garden. This places it ahead of several other noteworthy casual dining chains like Texas Roadhouse, Applebee’s, Cracker Barrel, and Outback Steakhouse.
When asked about where they would prefer to buy food and drinks, Olive Garden was the top pick for this age group. The restaurant, which began operations in Florida in 1982, also ranked first for service and dining experience among all surveyed Americans.
Chad Moutray, chief economist for the National Restaurant Association, mentioned that in today’s market, where consumers are more careful about how they spend their money, quality and hospitality are crucial factors influencing dining choices. It’s interesting to note that Olive Garden’s appeal isn’t limited to older adults; the chain is also highly regarded for family outings, especially when people want to avoid cooking or when a specific food craving hits, according to an analysis by Morning Consult’s Most Trusted Brands report.
The findings indicate that Olive Garden resonates emotionally with diners, making it a standout brand. The report noted that more people think favorably of Olive Garden compared to its competitors. It lead the casual dining sector for family meals, an aversion to cooking, and generous portion sizes.
However, it’s worth mentioning that the only demographic where another restaurant took the top spot was among Gen Z diners, who preferred Chili’s. Still, Olive Garden performed well across multiple age groups, especially in the 30-44 and 45-64 ranges.
In the 18-29 age category, Chili’s narrowly surpassed Olive Garden, with 29.6% of those surveyed favoring it over Olive Garden’s 28.7%. Other popular choices among baby boomers include Texas Roadhouse, Applebee’s, Cracker Barrel, and Outback Steakhouse, but Olive Garden remains a favorite in the casual dining landscape.
