Oliver North and Fawn Hall Tie the Knot After Decades
Oliver North and his former secretary, Fawn Hall, reportedly tied the knot in secret last month, roughly 40 years after their involvement in the notorious Iran-Contra affair.
A marriage license obtained by journalist Michael Ishikov reveals that the couple, aged 81 and 65 respectively, were married on August 27th in Arlington County, Virginia.
“It was a secret marriage,” a friend of the couple shared with Ishikov.
North, a retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel, was on former President Ronald Reagan’s National Security Council during the late 1980s when he faced accusations of facilitating illegal arms sales to Iran. This scheme aimed to persuade Iran-backed militants in Lebanon to release American hostages. Proceeds from these sales were ultimately funneled to support Contra rebels in Nicaragua.
Hall, who served as North’s secretary, received immunity from prosecution for her cooperation in revealing how North destroyed, altered, and concealed evidence related to their illegal activities. She disclosed that upon the Justice Department’s interest in the arms scheme, she assisted in destroying many documents linked to Iran-Contra.
Additionally, Hall recounted how, after North’s firing in 1986, she smuggled untouched Iran-Contra documents from the old executive office building.
North was convicted in 1989 on three felony counts tied to the Iran-Contra scandal. However, his conviction was overturned in 1991 due to the improper use of testimony he had provided to Congress under immunity.
Hall and North reportedly reconnected at a funeral last December for North’s wife, after which they began spending time together again.
While Hall pursued a modeling career in Hollywood post-scandal, she was married to Danny Sugarman, manager of The Doors, until his passing in 2005. Meanwhile, North authored “War Story with Oliver North,” worked on related veterans’ initiatives, and held a presidency at the National Rifle Association in 2018.
The wedding festivities were described as low-key, with none of North’s four children in attendance. Neither North nor Hall commented on the news.
