Omaha Councilman Blinker Harding Announces Congressional Run

Omaha City Councilman Blinker Harding has officially declared his candidacy for Congress, aiming to succeed U.S. Rep. Don Bacon. Bacon, who has been in office since 2017, recently announced that he would not seek re-election next year.

In a statement, Harding shared, “I am a husband, father, businessman, and an Omaha City Councilman. Today, I am excited to announce my run for NE-02, intent on making America a Heartland and ushering in a new golden age for the next 250 years.” He made this announcement on July 1.

Although Bacon will complete his current term, he has confirmed he will not run for re-election in 2026. Harding also praised Bacon’s service, expressing gratitude for his long tenure both in the Air Force and in Congress. “Thank you, Don, for 30 years of exceptional service and 10 years of dedicated leadership,” he said, reflecting on Bacon’s career.

Interestingly, the Republican party seems somewhat divided on this issue, even as Bacon has been a strong advocate for U.S. aid to Ukraine. He emphasized that peace talks have little effect on Putin, who aims to control Ukraine and is unlikely to back down until he recognizes he cannot win.

Senator Deb Fischer of Nebraska has lent her support to Harding’s campaign, stating that he has consistently championed public safety, economic growth, and financial responsibility during his time in service. She believes Harding will contribute to making America safer, stronger, and more prosperous.
